Thank you all for attending the Spilling the Tea Event!!
If you missed it, we had a panel of major alumni that was able to join us and answer some of the most common questions regarding the marine and coastal science major at Davis. We are currently working on uploading the media recording of this event and hope to have it up on the website soon for you all!

Big thanks to those who were able to make it to our last meeting! It was such a delight to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones! What better way to start off the quarter than with some lovely company!

Some important announcements:
🐙 The officer application has been reopened! The last day to apply is April 29th at 11:59 pm! Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about the positions. Do remember that we intend to have incoming officers shadow us so that you're not going into 2021-2022 completely on your own!
🐙 T-shirts! The officers have put together a t-shirt design* and we're wondering if y'all would be interested in getting t-shirts for the club. If this speaks to your inner fish, then please fill out the interest form linked above.
*Design drawing credit goes to Jacquie. Idea credit goes to Michael and Jacquie.

Take care and good luck on midterms,

Our speakers this week were Victoria Morgan and Marlynn Rollins; two spectacular graduate students pursing PhD's in marine science! Your individual journeys provided very valuable nuance. Thanks again for taking time out of your day to share your experiences! We'd also like to thank everyone who was able to make it to this event.

We hope to continue having more events like this in the future. Have suggestions or feedback? We'd be happy to hear how we can improve events like this! Feel free to let us know your thoughts through email.

Whoosh! Off to the Virtual Library!
Hi ocean - lubbers! We were stoked to see you! It was also great to meet some new people joining our club for the first time. It's never too late to join in on the fun!

Friendly reminder that if you have further questions about the BML application, feel free to reach out to us! Most of the officers have taken classes or conducted research at BML and would be happy to talk about those experiences if it will help you out!

For those who were not able the make it, the slides are linked above. We also have a Gather.Town creation called The Magical Library that you're welcome to pop into anytime* to study in (also linked above). For the virtual and udderly magical library, you’ll need Chrome or Firefox to enter it. Safari does not work. If you run into any issues, click here.
The map used to make this was originally designed by Dr. Mapzo, you can find more of their creations here.

We hope this meeting was helpful for those who were able to come! As always stay safe and we hope to sea you next time!

*There is a 25 person limit but with a club as cute as ours, that shouldn't be a problem in our current time.

Food Web Talks (affectionately referred to as food web) is a new lunch time series the club is starting this quarter. Our goal is to connect undergrads with grad students and researchers pursing various  paths within and closely related to the marine sciences.
Our first event went well. We'd like to thank everyone who was able to come! Special thanks to our fin-tastic guests, Dr. Scott Stanley Gabara and Veronica Padilla Vriesman! We had a ball with y'all and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Thanks again to all our members who were able to make it! For those who could not, here is the link to the slides and a CALPIRG petition.

The research scholarship will be out very soon! And be on the look out for our next couple of events. Food Web Talks are a rad opportunity to network and learn from researchers and grad students who are a part of the CMSI community. We hope to see you at these upcoming events.

Take care and stay safe,

Hi club members! Way to kick off the quarter with some socially distant, ocean-themed fun! We hope you enjoyed playing Jackbox games with us.

We strive to start off each quarter recognizing the land we occupy and its history. If you're out of the Davis area and are curious about the Indigenous land you reside in, check out this cool interactive map by Native Land Digital.

If you are interested in stretching your science communication skills and want to create content for this blog, we are totally open to working with you! Email us and let's chat.

Take care, stay safe, and sea you next time!
